Coke acts a good reducing agent and it has higher tendency to undergo oxidation because of its strong affinity with oxygen. However in case of very reactive metals with very low reduction potential like first group metals /2nd group metals  and Al,coke can not be used as reducing agent to remove oxygen from their oxides. These metals are stronger reducing agent then carbon (coke).
