Title: Sulfur and Magnesium Ions - Why?
Post by: rbrtadlsn on January 03, 2012, 11:29:33 PM
Why does sulfur tend to form  the S^-2 ion instead of the S^-1 ion, and why does magnesium form the Mg^+2 instead of Mg^+1 ion? Of course, I know that they want the stable octet, but my chem teacher says that there is another reason behind this tendency.
