Title: VSEPR & Electron Position
Post by: Avni on April 29, 2024, 12:20:00 AM
In one book I was reading, it showed the attached picture in green, of a person walking his dogs/electrons. In the book, it said that the green was the correct VSEPR model BF3. I didn't understand this though, because technically, the one in red that I drew, has more spread-apart electrons/dogs, which I think is the correct VSEPR model. Could you explain to me which one is correct and if it is the green, how?

Red is correct because three dogs means max angle of separation is 120 deg.It is trigonal planar with an angle of 120 deg.
